Creating subtasks from the task preview sidebar helps you break work into smaller pieces without losing context. You can do this anywhere you see the task preview—on the Tasks page, inside a Project, or in a File. The subtask opens right away so you can keep working.
Steps
Open the parent task.
Click any task to open its preview on the right side of the screen.Click Create a subtask button.
Use the Create a subtask button in the preview sidebar (available throughout the app).Parent label
In the form, a Parent label shows the parent task ID, title and description so you know where the subtask will live. This label is informational (not clickable) and appears only during creation.
(Optional, File tab only) Anchor the subtask to a spot in the file.
If you’re in File view, you can select an exact spot (anchor) or highlight text before you start. Anchoring lets assignees jump to the exact place in the file later.
Fill in the subtask details.
Add a Title and any other details you need.Create the subtask.
Click Create subtask button. The parent preview closes and the new subtask opens in the sidebar so you can keep working.Use Back button if needed.
On the subtask, click the Back button at the top left corner to return to the parent task.See all subtasks of the parent.
On the parent task, click the subtask indicator or Expand to open the full modal and view the entire subtask list.Cancel safely.
If you click Cancel during subtask creation, the subtask form closes and the parent task preview stays open.
What’s Filled In by Default
Assignee: empty (you choose).
Priority: Low.
Status: Open.
Reviewer: defaults to you (the person creating the subtask).
Notes & Behavior
The Parent label only appears during creation; it is not shown later in task Details.
After creation, the subtask opens and the parent closes. If you Cancel, the parent stays open.
The Back button on the subtask takes you to the parent (preview sidebar or modal, depending on where you are).
Works across Webapp, Addin, and Addon.
Summary / Next Steps
Use Create a subtask directly from any task’s preview to save time and keep context. In Files, highlight text or select spot to set an anchor. After creation, use Back to hop between the subtask and its parent.
